Associate, AI Research

Remote · Full-time

AI Research Associate conducts research across markets, technologies, competitors, and emerging opportunities to support venture validation and decision-making. Working alongside Eider Group partners and founders, the role combines AI-enabled research, analysis, and synthesis to turn complex information into actionable insights.

About Eider Group

Eider Group is a venture studio that builds and backs early-stage technology companies from idea through scale.

We work alongside founders to validate markets, shape products, build technical foundations, launch into market, and create the operating and growth systems required to build durable businesses. Our venture studio model brings together product, technology, go-to-market, operating expertise, and targeted capital in one connected company-building approach.

Our framework spans six stages: Validate, Design, Build, Launch, Grow, and Fund & Scale.

We focus on markets where deep technology, complex operations, and enterprise growth matter, including AI-native and AI-enabled platforms, health tech, fintech, B2B and vertical SaaS, MarTech and RevTech, and infrastructure and data platforms.

From idea to scale.

The Role

The AI Research Associate helps Eider Group investigate markets, technologies, customers, competitors, and emerging opportunities across prospective and active ventures.

This is a research and intelligence role within the venture studio. You will use AI-enabled research methods alongside primary and secondary research to turn fragmented information into clear, useful analysis that helps founders and Eider Group partners make better decisions.

Your work may begin with a simple question: Is this problem worth solving? From there, you may investigate market size, customer behavior, competitors, technology shifts, business models, pricing, regulatory considerations, or the assumptions underlying a prospective venture.

The role extends beyond initial validation. You will support research throughout the venture lifecycle, helping teams evaluate strategic decisions, understand changing markets, prepare for launch, refine go-to-market approaches, and develop the evidence needed for growth and capital decisions.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct market, customer, competitive, technology, and industry research for prospective and active ventures.
  • Use AI-enabled research tools and workflows to accelerate discovery, analysis, synthesis, and ongoing intelligence gathering.
  • Support early venture validation by investigating market demand, customer problems, competitive dynamics, business models, and commercial viability.
  • Develop market maps, competitive landscapes, company profiles, technology landscapes, and category analyses.
  • Research emerging technologies, business models, market shifts, and regulatory developments relevant to Eider Group's focus markets.
  • Conduct market sizing and help develop evidence-based estimates of addressable opportunities.
  • Analyze competitors across product, positioning, pricing, distribution, funding, partnerships, customers, and market strategy.
  • Support customer discovery by researching target segments, buyer dynamics, industry workflows, pain points, and existing alternatives.
  • Research pricing models, packaging strategies, unit economics, and monetization approaches.
  • Investigate technical platforms, infrastructure, AI capabilities, APIs, vendors, and emerging technologies when evaluating product or architectural decisions.
  • Help evaluate prospective ventures through structured research and diligence.
  • Prepare concise research briefs, opportunity analyses, market reports, and decision-support materials for Eider Group partners and founders.
  • Distill large volumes of information into clear findings, implications, risks, unanswered questions, and recommended areas for further investigation.
  • Develop and maintain research repositories, source libraries, market intelligence, and reusable knowledge across Eider Group.
  • Track meaningful developments within Eider Group's focus markets and identify changes that may create new venture opportunities or affect existing companies.
  • Support go-to-market research, including customer segmentation, channel analysis, positioning, competitive messaging, and market-entry considerations.
  • Support fundraising and capital strategy with market evidence, comparable-company research, investor landscape analysis, and supporting diligence.
  • Help improve Eider Group's AI-enabled research processes, methodologies, tools, and internal workflows.
  • Evaluate new AI research tools and determine where they can improve the speed, depth, or quality of studio research.

What Success Looks Like

Success is not measured by the volume of research produced. It is measured by whether the research improves decisions.

Over time, you will:

  • Help Eider Group evaluate venture opportunities faster and with greater confidence.
  • Surface important market signals, risks, assumptions, and opportunities before they become obvious.
  • Provide founders and Eider Group partners with clear answers to consequential business questions.
  • Build repeatable research methods that improve the quality and efficiency of venture validation and diligence.
  • Develop deep knowledge across Eider Group's focus markets while maintaining the ability to quickly investigate unfamiliar categories.
  • Create useful institutional knowledge that compounds across ventures rather than disappearing after an individual project.
  • Help distinguish compelling opportunities from attractive narratives unsupported by evidence.
  • Identify emerging technologies, market changes, and unmet needs that could become the foundation for new ventures.
  • Increase the speed at which Eider Group can move from an initial hypothesis to an informed decision.

Who You Are

You are intensely curious and naturally skeptical in the productive sense. When presented with a claim, market opportunity, or emerging technology, your instinct is to understand what is actually true and what evidence supports it.

You enjoy going deep on unfamiliar subjects and can quickly develop enough understanding to ask better questions. You are comfortable moving between quantitative and qualitative information and know that the most useful insight is often found by connecting signals from multiple sources.

You are enthusiastic about AI, but you do not confuse AI-generated output with research. You understand that good research requires source evaluation, verification, judgment, context, and synthesis.

You may bring experience in research, strategy, venture capital, market intelligence, consulting, technology, data, competitive intelligence, product, startups, or another analytically rigorous environment.

Strong candidates will bring:

  • Exceptional curiosity and a strong instinct for investigation.
  • Strong research, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Experience using generative AI and AI-enabled research tools as part of substantive research workflows.
  • The ability to distinguish reliable evidence from unsupported claims, weak sources, and AI-generated speculation.
  • Strong source evaluation and fact-checking habits.
  • The ability to synthesize complex or fragmented information into concise, useful conclusions.
  • Strong written communication and the ability to make research understandable to non-specialists.
  • Comfort researching unfamiliar industries, technologies, and business models.
  • An understanding of basic market research, competitive analysis, customer segmentation, business models, and commercial strategy.
  • Comfort working with both qualitative and quantitative information.
  • The ability to structure ambiguous questions into clear research plans.
  • Strong attention to detail without losing sight of the business question being answered.
  • An interest in emerging technology and the commercial application of AI.
  • Strong organization and comfort managing multiple research streams simultaneously.
  • A collaborative approach to working with Eider Group partners, founders, and venture teams.
  • Comfort operating in an entrepreneurial environment where questions frequently begin without predefined answers.

What This Role Is Not

This is not an academic AI research role. You will not be expected to conduct foundational machine-learning research, publish papers, or develop new model architectures.

It is also not a prompt-engineering position. Generative AI is an important part of the research toolkit, but the job is not simply producing prompts or accepting model output at face value.

The role is fundamentally about research, intelligence, and decision support.

AI helps us investigate more quickly and more broadly. Your judgment determines whether the result is useful.

The question is not simply, "What information can we find?"

It is "What do we now know, how confident are we, and what should Eider Group do with it?"
